The Hong Kong Marine and Port Board (HKMPB) recently unveiled that the Port of Hong Kong handled 1.77 million TEUs of containers in March, which grew 17.1% from a year earlier and enjoyed a double-digit increase for two months in a row. Throughput at the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals soared 18.4% to 1.39 million TEUs, while container movement to the other terminals was also brisk, surging 12.6% to the balance of 380,000 TEUs.

In the first quarter (January-March), Hong Kong processed 4.867 million TEUs, which improved 12.6% from the corresponding three months of 2016. In breakdown, 3.862 million TEUs were carried to and from the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals, which jumped 12.5%, while the other facilities were responsible for the remaining 1.006 million TEUs, which improved 12.8%.
