A total of 598,420 TEUs of containers were moved by ferry between South Korea and China in 2016, which increased 7.2% year on year. Meanwhile, 1,525,131 passengers in total used ferry services between the two Asian economies, which rose 5.9%.

Looking at the container movement by trade, those carried between Inchon and Dalian held the largest share of 8.9%, which were followed by those between Pyeongtaek and Rizhao, 8.6%; between Pyeongtaek and Dalian, 8.4% and between Inchon and Qingdao, 8.3%.

As for developments made last year in ferry services between South Korea and China, there was a boom for placing newbuilding orders. Dalong Ferry Co., Ltd. suspended its service between Pyeongtaek and Rongcheng, while, a newbuilding chartered vessel was deployed on the route between Pyeongtaek and Lianyungang. Container movement between South Korea and China increased constantly, although competition intensified owing to service overlaps on several routes and other factors.
