The Port of Osaka handled a total of 40.06 million tons of shipments in the first half (January-June) of this year, which increased 3.1% year on year, according to a preliminary report compiled by the city of Osaka’s Port and Harbor Bureau. In breakdown, international cargo decreased 2.4% to 16.58 million tons, but domestic cargo grew 7.3% to 23.48 million tons.

As for containerized shipments, the report said that14.58 million tons were exported to and imported from other countries and regions, which declined 1.5%. In terms of number, Osaka processed 941,652 TEUs, which fell a minute 1.3%. Meanwhile, 1.017 million tons were carried to and from other ports in Japan, which hiked 7%. On a TEU scale, 130,423 TEUs were handled, which inflated 1.4%. Focusing on oceangoing containers, 3.9 million TEUs were exported, which went down 0.6%, and 10.68 million TEUs were imported, down 1.8%. In number, exports waned 1.6% to 425,937 TEUs, and imports shrank 1% to 515,706 TEUs.
