Trade ports in South Korea handled a total of 2,132,400 TEUs of containers in August, which decreased 0.7% year on year, according to an announcement made by the nation’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
Looking at major ports, Busan processed 1,596,000 TEUs, which fell 2.8%. Exports and imports declined 1.1% to 774,000 TEUs, while transshipment (T/S) containers were even more sluggish, waning 4.4% to the balance of 823,000 TEUs.
In contrast, container throughput improved 3.9% to 180,000 TEUs at Kwangyang. Exports and imports surged 11.3% to 150,000 TEUs, but T/S containers plunged 22.2% to 30,000 TEUs.
Incheon enjoyed a growth of 8.9%, handling 218,000 TEUs, thanks to continued increases in containers to and from China, Vietnam and Taiwan.
