Jamaica Customs has formally notified that a 6-digits harmonized code will become mandatory for all inbound cargo to Jamaica, according to carrier sources.
Effective September 1, 2016 the 6-digit HS Code must be inserted at the Bill of Lading and container levels in the HS Code field for these cargo when submitting advance reports to Jamaica Customs.
In case of several goods a mixed cargo consigned as one shipment, the 6-digit code for the goods with the greatest representative value should be inserted.
Failing to provide this information will result in a penalty of USD 8,500.00 per offence.
