A suspension bridge across Izmit Bay in western Turkey has been commissioned. The Osman Gazi Bridge links the Turkish capital of Istanbul with Izmir City, cutting crossing time substantially, from the previous 60 minutes by road journey around the bay to only six minutes. The world’s fourth longest suspension bridge was constructed by Japan’s IHI Group.

Once the ongoing 420-kilometer highway project between Istanbul and Izmir, of which the new bridge constitutes a part, is completed, the travel time between Isbantul and Izmir will be reduced 3.5 hours from the current ten hours at the maximum.
