Container throughput at the port of Hong Kong fell for the 22nd consecutive month, handling 1.578 million TEUs in April, a decline of 9.3% over the same month last year.
The volume handled by the Kwai Tsing (Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Districts ) terminals fell 9.0% to 1.248 million TEUs while mid-stream and river trade operators saw throughput fall 10.3% to 330,000 TEUs.
For the first four months, Hong Kong box traffic made a double-digit fall of 11.2% from the corresponding period in 2015, to 5.915 million TEUs. The Kwai Tsing terminals processed 4.680 million TEUs, down 11.1% year on year while the volume handled at the other terminal sites totaled 1.234 million, down 11.4% on year.
