Ports in China handled 18,165,500 TEUs of containers in total in April, which grew 3.1% year on year, according to an announcement made by the nation’s Ministry of Transport. Coastal ports were responsible for 16,277,800 TEUs, up 2.9%, and inland river ports, 1,887,600 TEUs, down 4.6%.

From January to April, accumulated container throughput was 68,256,700 TEUs, which rose 2.1% from a year earlier. In breakdown, 61,208,800 TEUs were moved to and from coastal ports, up 1.9%, and 1,887,600 TEUs to and from inland river ports, up 3.8%.

Shanghai alone processed 3.12 million TEUs last month, which increased a very minute 0.3% from the corresponding month of 2015, when the port handled 3.11 million TEUs.

Cumulative container throughput, however, slowed down in the first four months, totaling 11.66 million TEUs, which declined 0.01 % from the 11.78 million TEUs that were transported to and from the port a year ago.
