Brazilian ports handled a combined total of 9.135 million TEUs in 2015, representing a 1.9% decline compared to 9.316 million TEUs registered in 2014, according to the Special Secretariat of Ports of the Brazilian Presidency (SEP/PR).
Santos, South America’s busiest container port, processed 3.027 million TEUs, down 0.4% from the previous year, representing a 33% share of the nation’s total box throughput. Ranked second is Paranagua with volumes of 782,350 TEUs followed by Rio Grade which handed 726,780 TEUs, up 7.1％ year on year.
For the first two months, container volumes in Brazilian ports plunged 25.2% from a year earlier to 389,000 TEUs, reflecting continued economic slump of the country.
