Brazilian ports handled a combined total of 9.135 million TEUs in 2015, representing a 1.9% decline compared to 9.316 million TEUs registered in 2014, according to the Special Secretariat of Ports of the Brazilian Presidency (SEP/PR).

Santos, South America’s busiest container port, processed 3.027 million TEUs, down 0.4% from the previous year, representing a 33% share of the nation’s total box throughput. Ranked second is Paranagua with volumes of 782,350 TEUs followed by Rio Grade which handed 726,780 TEUs, up 7.1% year on year.

For the first two months, container volumes in Brazilian ports plunged 25.2% from a year earlier to 389,000 TEUs, reflecting continued economic slump of the country.
