The Port of Los Angeles handled a total of 8,160,457 TEUs in 2015, down 2.2% from the previous year. The decline is attributable to the labor dispute early in the year.

Imports fell 2.6% from a year earlier to 4,159,461 TEUs in 2015 while exports plunged 14.3% on year to 1,656,677 TEUs.

Meanwhile the Port of Long Beach moved a total of 7,192,066 TEUs in 2015. Imports rose 3.1 percent to 3,625,263 TEUs, while exports dropped 4.9 percent to 1,525,560. The strong dollar continues to favor imports and discourage exports, resulting in more empties being sent back overseas to be refilled with goods.
