Major shipping companies moved a total of 1.257 million TEUs of containers among 13 countries and regions in Asia in October, growing a minute 0.4% from a year earlier and enjoying a year-on-year increase for the fourth consecutive month. Exports from Japan suffered a double-digit decline of 10.5% to 136,000 TEUs, but imports to the nation rose 0.6% to 189,000 TEUs. In the first 10 months (January-October), container throughput on the intra-Asia trade climbed 3.1% to 12.276 million TEUs. Japan exported 1.459 million TEUs, which fell 1.4%, and imported 1.857 million TEUs, which hiked 0.2%.
