The Port of Hong Kong processed 1.674 million TEUs of containers in September, which decreased 6.7% from a year earlier and suffering a year-on-year decline for the 15th consecutive month. Container throughput was sluggish at Kwai Tsing Container Terminals (Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island), totaling 1.214 million TEUs, which registered a double-digit contraction of 14.2%. In contrast, the other facilities, including mid-stream sites, performed well, handling the remaining 460,000 TEUs, which surged 21.6%.

In the first nine months (January-September), a total of 15.484 million TEUs were moved to and from Hong Kong. In breakdown, 11.863 million TEUs were carried to and from Kwai Tsing Container Terminals, which went down 11.4%, and the balance of 3.621 million TEUs were to and from mid-stream sites and the other facilities, up 4.8%.
