Outbound shipments from Japan to China decreased 3.9% year on year to 958,454 tons in July, according to a report on container movement between the two Asian economies. On a value basis, in contrast, they increased a mild 1.6% to \659 billion.

In the first seven months (January-July), they fell 0.8% in terms of tonnage but improved 2.4% in terms of yen.

The report, which the Japan Maritime Center (JMC) had compiled from trade statistics unveiled by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), added that imports from China to Japan declined 5.4% from a year earlier to 1,866,306 tons in July. In value terms, however, they increased 6.2% to \1.215 trillion.

From January to July, the volume waned 7.9%, but the total value rose 3.3%.
