Container movement between Japan and South Korea decreased a minute 0.3% year on year to 902,526 TEUs in the first half (January-June), according to a report compiled by the Korea Nearsea Freight Conference (KNFC).

The KNFC, a conference of shipping lines catering to the trade between the two Asian nations, added that containers from Japan to South Korea increased 6% from 371,431 TEUs to 393,804 TEUs due to the depreciation of the Japanese yen against the South Korean won. Those from South Korea to Japan, on the other hand, fell 4.7% from 533,951 TEUs to 508,722 TEUs.

The report said that local containers from South Korea waned 9.3% to 190,754 TEUs, but that those to South Korea rose 10.6% to 171,144 TEUs. The former accounted for 53%, and the latter, the balance of 47%. The ratio was 57% to 43% on average in 2014.
