The Port of Busan in South Korea handled a total of 9,683,856 TEUs of containers in the first half (January-June) of 2015, increasing 2% from a year earlier, according to statistics compiled by the Busan Port Authority (BPA). Export and import containers accounted for 4,686,298 TEUs, growing a mild 2.6%. Meanwhile, transshipment (T/S) containers were more robust, rising 7.4% to 4,997,558 TEUs and holding a majority share of 51.6%. They are projected to exceed the 10-million-TEU line by the end of the year, if they are to remain as brisk.

South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) recently unveiled that container ports in the nation, including Busan, processed 12,742,000 TEUs of containers in total in the six-month period in question, growing 4.1% year on year. T/S containers amounted to 5,307,000 TEUs, which improved 7.1%, indicating that Busan enjoyed a share of more of more than 94%.
