Serious dry weather in northern and eastern Thailand has lowered the water level in the Chao Phraya River, delaying containership arrivals at Bangkok Port by 0.5-1 days. Some shipping lines moving cargo from Shanghai to Bangkok have decided to implement the Bangkok Contingency Surcharge of $100 per FEU, effective August 1.

Shipping lines and port operators are apprehensive that further drop in rainfall could lead to a serious congestion at the port.
