Container trade among 13 Asian economies, including Japan, was brisk in May, growing 8.6% year on year to 1.317 million TEUs. Shipments to and from Japan increased in both directions, with imports rising 10% to 217,000 TEUs and exports, 5.1% to 157,000 TEUs.

In the first five months (January-May), container movement in the intra-Asia network improved 3.8% from a year earlier to 6.114 million TEUs. Japan imported 949,000 TEUs, going down 1.1%, and exported 755,000 TEUs, up 0.7%.
