The Hanoi - Hai Phong Expressway will partially open to the public on May 19, 2015, four years behind schedule.
The expressway is designed for speeds of up to 120km/ph. with the total length of about 105.5km; 7 separate interchanges at intersections with national highways; 17 large bridges, 24 medium bridges, 22 flyovers (the total length of the bridges is about 14km).
Transit time from Hanoi to Haiphong currently averages 3-4 hours due to traffic jam. After fully completed, it will be cut ton 90 minutes.
Total investment of the project is about US$2.2 billion funded by Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Joint Stock Company
The opening section is a Hai Duong - Hai Phong leg of 22.7km. The remaining 76km is scheduled to open to traffic by August.
