In 2014, containerized exports of used cars surged 17.4% from a year before to 498,956 units, according to a report compiled by a Tokyo-based auto-related organization. The throughput of containerized shipments accounted for 48.9% of the total, as Japan exported 1,283,581 units last year. The containerization rate rose by 2.4 percentage points from the previous year to 48.9%, registering an increase for two consecutive years.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) was greater in number than those to any other destination, soaring 19.7% year on year to 108,802 units, followed by South Africa, to which 51,028 units were exported, declining 10.5% year on year. Exports to Kyrgyz totaled 45,997 units, surging 31.9% and helping the nation finish in third place. Those to Chile, which came in fourth, grew a moderate 6.4% to 40,128 units. Those to Georgia more than double to 38,707 units.
