In 2014, 1,796,316 TEUs of containers were traded between Japan and South Korea, which rose 0.8% from a year earlier. On the route between South Korea and China, 2,750,173 TEUs were transported, which increased 1.9%. The growth was smaller than 2013 when it was 4.1%. Containerized shipments between South Korea and Southeast Asia were much more favorable, enjoying a double-digit improvement of 10% to reach 2,318,865 TEUs.

On the trade between Japan and South Korea, local shipments grew 2.7% to 732,754 TEUs, with exports from Japan to South Korea going up 5% to 322,264 TEUS and imports from South Korea to Japan, up 1% to 410,490 TEUs. Feeder cargo fell 0.4% to 1,063,562 TEUs, of which those from Japan went down 0.5% to 436,906 TEUs and those to Japan, down 0.5% to 626,656 TEUs.

Containers from South Korea to China declined 3.7% to 1,139,422 TEUs, while those from China to South Korea inflated 7.2% to 1,394,218 TEUs. Feeder containers destined to China swelled 10.8% to 90,187 TEUs, but those to South Korea diminished 4.6% to 126,346 TEUs.

South Korea exported 1,211,776 TEUs of containers to Southeast Asia, which picked up 4.1%, and imported 1,107,089 TEUs from the region, which increased a notable 17.3%.
