Shipping lines on the transpacific trade have withdrawn their proposed port congestion surcharges on cargo through U.S. West Coast ports over fears of strong pushback from U.S. importers and Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) scrutiny. The surcharges amounted to $800 per TEU and $1,000 per FEU.
Carriers which have announced the suspension involve, as of Wednesday, CMA CGM, Evergreen Line, Hanjin Shipping, Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), and U.S. Lines.
