Taiwan's Finance Committee has passed a resolution which will require some types of container cargo from Japan to undergo radiation checks at the nation's major ports of Kaohsiung, Keelung/ Taipei and Taichung starting from November 10, 2014. The commodities subject to testing involve plastic wastes, scrap meters and paper wastes.

Since the nuclear crisis in Fukushima in 2011 after the East Japan great earthquake disaster, Kaohsiung Customs said it had rejected 241 containers originating from Japan with radiation levels exceeding the legal limit.
