Container throughput at mainland China ports grew 7.2% to 17.564 million TEUs in August compared to the same month last year. Marine ports handled 15.823 million TEUs, up 7.3% from the same month last year, while inland ports handled 1.735 million TEUs, up 5.8% year on year.
In the first eight months of this year, mainland ports handled a total of 132.563 million TEUs, an increase of 5.6% over the same period last year. Within this total, marine ports processed 118.441 million TEUs, an increase of 6.5% year on year while box throughput at inland ports totaled 13.122 million TEUs, a decrease of 3.0 % compared to the corresponding period of 2013.
