Kenya has launched the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System (KNESWS), marking the beginning of a new era towards electronically automated cargo documentation processes which should improve the movement of goods across the borders.
KNESWS, also known as TradeNet, seeks to facilitate electronic settlement of due taxes and payment of fees in cross-border transactions on a pilot basis.
Under the new TradeNet regime, the documents which importers and exporters in the pilot project will submit electronically include licenses, import declaration forms, sea and air manifests. It is projected that the new scheme will require only three days for cargo to be cleared at Kenya's gateway port of Mombasa.
TradeNet is managed and implemented by Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE).
