South Korea's Port of Busan handled a total of 16,134,507TEUs of containerized shipments in the first 11 months (January-November) of 2013, which represented a year-on-year increase of 3.3%, according to the Busan Port Authority (BPA).

In breakdown, local cargoes accounted for 8,165,829 TEUs, which improved 1.1%, with imports going up 0.6% to 4,043,160 TEUs and exports up 1.6% to 4,122,669 TEUs. Transshipment (T/S) cargoes amounted to 7,964,476TEUs, growing 6.8%, and domestic cargoes, the balance of 4,202 TEUs, decreasing 4.8%.

For the entire year, total container throughput is expected to be somewhere around 17.6 million TEUs, roughly a half of which (8.6 million TEUs) will be made up of transshipment containers.
