In June 2013, 1.307 million TEUs of containerized shipments were traded among 12 Asian economies, increasing 4% year on year.

Exports from Japan grew 5.8% to 184,000 TEUs, and imports to Japan hiked 1.3% to 210,000 TEUs.

In the first half (January-June), a total of 7.256 million TEUs were transported on the intra-Asia trade, which improved 3.6% from a year earlier.

Containers from Japan accounted for 990,000 TEUs, which rose 1.9%, and those to Japan, 1.186 million TEUs, which climbed 1.4%.

In the first six months, Japan exported 363,000 TEUs to China, going up 2.2%; 130,000 TEUs to Thailand, up 4.3%; 103,000 TEUs to Taiwan, up 0.4%; 87,000 TEUs to South Korea, up 1.4%; 82,000 TEUs to Hong Kong, up 0.6%; 66,000 TEUs to Indonesia, down 2.7%; 49,000 TEUs to Vietnam, up 7.1%; 47,000 TEUs to Malaysia, up 6.5%; 32,000 TEUs to the Philippines, up 5.3%; 24,000 TEUs to Singapore, up 5.3%; 4,400 TEUs to Cambodia, up 18.4%; and 2,400 TEUs to Myanmar, up 48.4%.

Meanwhile, imports to Japan amounted to 524,000 TEUs from China, which went up 1.5%; 119,000 TEUs from Thailand, up 5%; 114,000 TEUs from South Korea, down 4.6%; 100,000 TEUs from Taiwan, down 5.2%; 80,000 TEUs from Indonesia, up 1.6%; 67,000 TEUs from Vietnam, up 11.5%; 64,000 from Hong Kong, down 2.4%; 51,000 TEUs from the Philippines, up 27.2%; 43,000 TEUs from Malaysia, down 4.2%; 20,000 TEUs from Singapore, down 10.5%; 2,000 TEUs from Myanmar, up 7.4%; and 750 TEUs from Cambodia, up 12.2%.
