A total of 15,737,100 TEUs of containerized shipments were handled at ports in China in April 2013, according to statistics by the nation’s Ministry of Transportation. For the first four months, box throughput in Chinese ports added up to 58,963,700 TEUs, representing an 8.4% increase over the same period in 2012. Coastal ports were responsible for 52,674,800 TEUs, going up 8.1% year on year and inland river ports, 6,288,900 TEUs, up 10.5% from a year before.
