Container traffic at India's 12 major ports totaled 7.708 million TEUs in fiscal year 2012/2013 (April 2012-March 31, 2013), representing a slight decline of 0.91% compared to 7.779 million TEUs in FY2011/2012, according to Indian Ports Association (IPA).
Box volume at the busiest port of Jawaharlal Nehru (JNPT) stood at 4.259 million TEUs, down 1.4% from the previous year. The second busiest port of Chennai handled 1.539 million TEUs, down 1.0% from a year earlier, followed by Kolkata whose throughput for FY2012/2013 rose 8.7% on year to 600,000 TEUs.
