Global containerized exports in February fell by 13.98% compared to January, down to 9.05 million TEUs, representing a 12-month low and, furthermore, a contraction of 5.19% compared to February 2012, according to Container Trades Statistics (CTS).
CTS statistics shows total exports from Asia (including Intra-Asia) to all overseas markets fell by a notable 26.4%, down to 4.595 million TEUs, compared to January, and were also lower by 8% compared to February 2012.
Equally, the pace of growth momentum in Asian (including Intra-Asia) containerized imports was undermined in February, with purchasing activity slowing down compared to January. Total imports to Asia (including Intra-Asia) from all overseas markets fell by 10%, down to 3.37 million TEUs, since last month, and were down 12% compared to a year ago.
Total exports from North America (including Intra-America) monitored by CTS, rose by 4.78% to 1.222 million TEUs, compared to January, and were on par with the amount of exports shipped in February 2012. The increase seems to echo the recent plan of the US Government to double exports by the end of 2014.
Conversely, total imports into North America (including Intra-America), fell by 23.38%, down to 1.518 million TEUs compared to January, and were also down 3% compared to February 2012, said CTS.
