Container movement on the intra-Asia trade was sluggish in February 2013, decreasing 5.5% year on year to 999,000 TEUs.
Exports from Japan to 11 other Asian economies declined 1.47% to 155,000 TEUs, and imports were more stagnant, falling 8.1% to 158,000 TEUs.
In the first two months, a total of 2.18 million TEUs were moved on the trade, improving 4.5% from a year earlier.
Containers from Japan went up 0.14% to 288,000 TEUs and those to Japan, up 1.9% to 358,000 TEUs.
In February, exports of containerized shipments from Japan to Thailand grew 4.8% year on year to 20,000 TEUs.
Those to South Korea and Vietnam were more robust, surging 34% to 15,000 TEUs and 42.3% to 9,200 TEUs.
Containers to Cambodia more than doubled, skyrocketing 100.4% to 900 TEUs.
In contrast, exports to the other seven destinations were all diminished, with those to China waning 8.5% to 58,000 TEUs; to Taiwan, 6.5% 15,000 TEUs; to Hong Kong, 11.4% to 11,000 TEUs; to Indonesia, 2.9% to 10,000 TEUs; to Malaysia, 4.8% to 7,300 TEUs; to the Philippines, 11.1% to 4,400 TEUs; and to Singapore, 15.9% to 3,700 TEUs.
