Japan and South Korea have agreed to continue their vice-ministerial policy talks and cooperation in the field of transportation. The nations met in Seoul last Thursday for their 14th high-level transport meeting to actively exchanged views on the policies they advance in the field, such as environmental policies; transportation policies for the elderly, physically disabled, and others; and logistics policies.
Japan and South Korea decided at a ministerial meeting in October 1999 to have vice-ministerial policy dialog between their Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) to discuss common challenges in the field of transportation. They have met alternately in Japan and South Korea since March 2000.
At the meeting last week, MLIT Vice Minister for Transport, Tourism and International Affairs Hisahiro Tsuruta led the delegation from Japan, while South Korea was represented by MOLIT Deputy Minister for Transport and Logistics Park Jae-soon. In respect to 1) carbon neutrality in the field of transportation, 2) transportation policies for the elderly, physically disabled, and others, 3) logistics policies: demonstration transportation tests for the diversification and enhancement of international logistics, which were proposed by Japan, and the employment of AI in the logistics industry, proposed by South Korea; and 4) more practical logistics policies (e.g., chassis interoperations in both countries), they presented their respective policies and current situations and exchanged opinions on them.
Japan and South Korea are slated to meet next time in Japan.
