U.S. container imports from 10 major Asian economies amounted to 1.82 million TEUs in July (based on volumes at ports of origin), down 5.3% year on year, according to statistics compiled by Descartes Datamyne from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data. From the previous month, however, they rose 2.8%. In the first seven months (January–July), they totaled 11.87 million TEUs, down 0.9% year on year. Overall U.S. container imports added up to 2.51 million TEUs in July, down 4%.
Looking at imports from Asia by origin, those from China were down 7.8% year on year to 944,270 TEUs; from Vietnam, up 8.2% to 282,846 TEUs; from South Korea, down 1% to 206,089 TEUs; from India, down 7.1% to 81,053 TEUs; and from Thailand, up 0.2% to 73,352 TEUs. Imports from Japan jumped 11.4% to 42,555 TEUs, coming in eighth place.
