U.S. container imports from 10 major Asian economies amounted to 1.77 million TEUs in June (based on volumes at ports of origin), up 14.9% year on year, according to statistics compiled by Descartes Datamyne from U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP) data. From the previous month, they increased 1%. Overall U.S. imports totaled 2.43 million TEUs, up 9.6%.
In the first half (January-June), the U.S. imported 10.06 million TEUs from the 10 Asian countries and regions (based on volumes at ports of origin), up 2.1% from a year earlier. Total imports aggregated 13.92 million TEUs, up 0.3%.
Imports from China accounted for 5.08 million TEUs, down 1.3%; from Vietnam, 1.53 million TEUs, up 25.1%; from South Korea, 1.16 million TEUs, down 5.2%; from India, 422,303 TEUs, down 8.4%; and from Thailand, 437,042 TEUs, up 26.2%.
