Ports in China handled a total of 12,179,600 TEUs of containerized shipments in February 2013, increasing a slight 1.8% year on year, according to the nation’s Ministry of Transport.

In breakdown, throughput was 10,750,000 TEUs at coastal ports, which went up 0.8% and 1,429,600 TEUs at inland river ports, up 9.6%.

In the first two months, the ministry said that 27,923,300 TEUs were transported to and from Chinese ports, growing 9.5% from a year earlier.

Coastal ports accounted for 24,904,600 TEUs, rising 8.7%, and inland river ports, the balance of 3,018,700 TEUs, which enjoyed a double-digit improvement of 16.2%.
