A total of 1.226 million TEUs of containerized shipments were traded among 12 Asian countries and regions in November 2012, growing 10.4% year on year from 1.111 million TEUs.
In breakdown, dry cargoes amounted to 1.155 million TEUs, which increased 9.7%, while reefer cargoes were more robust, surging 20.6% to 71,000 TEUs.
Container trade was brisk both to and from Japan, with imports of dry and reefer cargoes to the nation rising 7.9% to 212,000 TEUs and exports swelling as much to 160,000 TEUs.
In the first 11 months (January-November), 12.9 million TEUs of containers were traded on the intra-Asia trade, improving 4.8% from a year earlier, when 12.301 million TEUs were handled.
Inbound containers to Japan went down 5% to 2.182 million TEUs, but outbound containers from Japan picked up 0.6% to 1.834 million TEUs.
