Container volumes handled at South Korea's seaports slipped 1.6% in October to 1.868 million TEUs, compared with 1.898 million TEUs in the same month last year, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. The decline is attributable to a downturn in the global economy and week demands in the nation’s export and import market. The containerized imports and exports fell 3.9% year on year to 1.129 million TEUs while transhipment containers rose 4.3% to 683,000 TEUs in October.

In the first ten months of the year, South Korea’s container traffic totaled 18.653 million TEUs, up 4.2% from the same period in 2011.
