Containerized shipments handled at South Korean ports increased 6.2% to 1.868 million TEUs in September, compared to 1.759 million TEUs in the same month last year, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affair.

Import and export containers totaled 1.145 TEUs, up 4.8% from a year before. Transhipment containers registered a double-digit increase of 10.6% to 699,000 TEUs while coastal box volume plunged 29.5% on year to 24,000 TEUs.

South Korea's monthly container trade suffered a minus growth in August for first time in 34 months, but switched immediately to rebound in September due mainly to forward shipping by shippers in preparation for China's National Day and Mid -Autumn Harvest festival holidays.
