A total of 1.248 million TEUs of containerized shipments were traded among 13 Asian countries and regions in July 2012.

It was 2.9% more than the 1.213 million TEUs handed a year earlier but 4.6% less than the 1.306 million TEUs a month earlier.

In the first seven months (January-July), 8.463 million TEUs were carried on the intra-Asia trade, growing 9.2% year on year.

From the month in question, containers to and from Myanmar, which attracts attention as a new investment target, were incorporated.

They amounted to 9,000 TEUs, which were close to those to and from Cambodia, which totaled 9,800 TEUs.

In July, Japan exported 171,000 TEUs to the 12 other Asian economies, going down 6.8% from a year earlier, and imported 205,000 TEUs from the partners, down 10.6%.

On an accumulated scale, exports from Japan totaled 1.209 million TEUs in the seven months, increasing 1.7% year on year, and imports, 1.461 million TEUs, 3.5%.
