Japan, China and South Korea recently agreed to cooperate on developing a seamless logistics system, realizing environmentally friendly logistics and striking a balance between ensuring security and improving the efficiency of logistics.

The logistics ministers of the three nations issued a joint statement when meeting in Busan, South Korea on July 16, 2012 for the fourth round of the China-Japan-Korea Ministerial Conference on Transport and Logistics.

They also decided to add more ports to the Northeast Asia Logistics Information Service Network (NEAL-NET).

The ministries exchanged views on how chassis can travel from one country to another as a challenge to overcome to establish a seamless logistics system, agreeing to launch a pilot project between Japan and South Korea.

More specifically, auto parts and components manufactured in South Korea will be transported on chassis used in South Korea.

They will be carried by sea from Busan to Shimonoseki and arrive at Nissan Motor Kyushu Co. Ltd. and other auto (parts and component) makers.

It is expected that auto parts and components from South Korea will reach Japan in the second half of 2012.

The transport of auto parts and components produced in Japan has already been carried on Japan’s chassis in South Korea since September 2011.

As for the NEAL-NET, the three countries will help each other establishing links with railways, roads and other traffic systems and have more ports to be covered by the network.

Kawasaki, Osaka and Kobe in Japan; Shanghai, Dalian, Tianjin and 10 other major ports in China; and Kwangyang and Inchon in South Korea will be added to the network, which already covers Tokyo, Yokohama, Ningbo and Busan.
