Japan International Freight Forwarders Association Inc. (JIFFA) on June 14, 2012 approved reports on its business projects and financial performance in fiscal 2011 (April 2011-March 2012).

During its first annual general assembly since becoming a general incorporated association on April 1, it also agreed on a business plan and a budget for fiscal 2012.

“The combined volume of international multimodal cargoes that JIFFA members handle reached an all-time high in 2011, exceeding 80 million tons,” Chairman Jiro Nakamura said in the addresses he gave at the meeting and a subsequent get-together.

“JIFFA, which cerebrated its 30th anniversary last year, welcomed 16 new members last fiscal year. Eleven more had joined since April this year to total 415 as of June 1, meaning that JIFFA’s foundation has become much more solid.”

“These achievements indicate a growing awareness of the fact that it is forwarders that can meet logistics demand that is becoming more and more difficult and complicated in severe business circumstances, such as major earthquakes and the disconnection of logistics routes,” he said, stressing that forwarders are becoming increasingly important. “The age of forwarders is coming.”

“We will make greater efforts to offer [better] education and training, provide know-how and information on doing logistics services overseas and raise the status of the forwarding business,” Chairman Nakamura concluded.
