The Ministry of Finance's Customs and Tariff Bureau officially announced Wednesday the implementation of the Advance Filing Rules on Maritime Container Cargo, known as ''Japanese Version 24-Hour Rule.''

The new scheme will require shipping lines and non - vessel - operating common carriers (NVOCCs) to submit electronically detailed container cargo information no later than 24 hours before loading at origin ports abroad.

In case of shipments loaded onto vessels at certain ports of neighboring countries / territories including South Korea and China, the deadline will be for the time being relaxed to by no later than before departure of the vessels from the ports of loading.

The rules will be implemented in March 2014.
