The unprecedented plunge of freight rates coupled with the sharp increase of bunkers and the deterioration of operational conditions in Asia has prompted shipping lines in the Asia to Europe trade to embark on substantial rate increases. So far, the following carriers have unveiled their rate recovery plans for cargo moving westbound from Asia to Europe.

- OOCL: $800/TEU, effective March 1

- ''K'' Line: $725/TEU, effective March 1

- CMA CGM: $750/TEU, effective March 1

- Hapag-Lloyd: $750/TEU, effective March 1

- MOL: $750/TEU, effective March 1

- MSC: $775/TEU, effective March 1

- Zim: $750/TEU, effective March 1

- HMM: $700/TEU, effective March 1

- Hanjin Shipping: $700/TEU, effective March 1 (for shipments from Japan, effective April 1)

- COSCON: $300/TEU, effective March 1 and $400, effective April 1 for dry cargo/$400, effective March 1 and April 1 for reefer cargo

- Maersk Line: $775/TEU, effective April 1
