Container trade between South Korea and China was steady in the first half (January-June) of 2011.
The overall volume of containerized shipments transported on the trade was 1,255,265 TEUs, an increase of 7.2% from the 1,171,174 TEUs carried a year earlier, according to the Yellow Sea Liners’ Committee (YSLC).
In breakdown, year-on-year improvements were achieved in both ways - with containers from South Korea to China going up 8.73% from 482,149 TEUs to 529,753 TEUs and those from China to South Korea, up 6.07% from 683,976 TEUs to 725,512 TEUs.
Looking at shipments from South Korea to China more closely, local cargoes were brisk, surging 17.86% year on year to 482,149 TEUs, but transhipment (T/S) cargoes were not, plunging 39.07% to 47,604 TEUs.
As for those from China to South Korea, local cargoes were robust, soaring 21.45% to 619,908 TEUs, but T/S cargoes were stagnant, plummeting 39.18% to 106,514 TEUs.
