The Saudi Arabia port authority has recently issued a circular dated July 19, 2011, stating that any missing and/or inaccurate declaration of cargo description on the manifest to the Saudi Customs for import, export and re-export cargoes will be considered a violation against the Unified Gulf State Customs regulation, according to shipping line sources.

As such, shippers and freight forwarders are required to provide their complete and correct cargo description information that corresponds to the Unified Gulf State Customs declaration regulation. Therefore, the actual cargo commodity name, and not the product name, is required for the B/L cargo description.

For consolidated cargo, ''consol or consolidated cargo'' is not considered as a valid B/L cargo description. For any failure to comply with the Saudi Arabian Customs' discretion, a penalty of up to SR 2,000 will be imposed.
