Japan International Freight Forwarders Association Inc. (JIFFA) agreed on a business plan for fiscal 2011 (April 2011-March 2012) during its 26th general assembly held on June 15.

The business plan is made up of 16 projects, which include training and education, surveys on logistics in other countries and arrangements for becoming a general incorporated association.

During the meeting, Chairman Yasuo Ito stepped down from his post and handed over the JIFFA chairmanship to Jiro Nakamura, managing executive officer and director of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Nittsu).

Nakamura, who will assume the post of executive vice president and representative director of Nittsu on June 29, held a press conference after the general assembly.

“I will continue to work on the training, education, research and study programs, all of which have been carried out as JIFFA’s duties under my predecessors; vigorously advance public relations activities about freight forwarders among the general public; and make arrangements for (JIFFA) to become a general incorporated association,” he said.

“JIFFA’s activities are extremely important for forwarders,” Nakamura added, boasting the publication of “Kokusai Fukugo Yuso Jitsumu Tebiki” (Guide to the International Multimodal Transport Business), the success in reports on local research in Brazil and other achievements.

He stressed that he would like to continue these efforts under a new structure to further develop JIFFA.

Major projects incorporated in the fiscal 2011 business plan are, among others, courses for qualifying international multimodal transport specialists (IMTSs), those for the basics of forwarding services, those for foreign languages, a logistics field trip at the Port of Hakata for school children, a similar project for college students (where it will be held is to be announced), logistics surveys in Mexico and Myanmar, and the publication of a book for commemorating JIFFA’s history of 30 years, which will involve former JIFFA employees.
