Customs authorities of Japan and South Korea signed an arrangement on mutual recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) system.

Under the pact, customs authorities of the two countries will reflect the risk analysis of the status of AEO traders in clearing exported or imported goods of respective AEO traders on the other end. They will also respect the status of AEO traders on other end in the application of various security requirements.

For Japan, South Korea is the fifth partner for AEO mutual recognition, following New Zealand, the U.S., European Union (EU) and Canada. Negotiations are now ongoing with Singapore, China and Malaysia.
