China and South Korea decided to launch a new container service when they recently met in Shanghai for a special shipping meeting.

The new service will link Chinese ports and a new port in Gyeonggin, South Korea, which will go into operation in October 2011.

South Korea hopes the service?which will be run with two vessel, one by a Chinese operator and the other by a South Korean operator?will cover Qingdao, Shanghai and Lianyungang in China.

But a final decision will be made during future meetings to be held by private parties.

China and South Korea exchanged views on other subjects as well, including commencing a new car ferry service connecting Rongcheng and Shidao, China with Pyeongtaek, South Korea.

They agreed to come up with details for the service if conditions are met.
