The huge earthquake measured 10 on the Richter scale and the following tsunami swept away Japan's Tohoku and North-Kanto area on Friday, claiming immeasurable numbers of casualties and causing devastating damages on infrastructure. Sendai Port and Sendai Airport, both gateway into northern Japan, have been closed immediately after the quake and the scale of the tragedy is still uncertain and yet unable to estimate how long it will take for recovery.

Other northern Japan ports of Onahama, Hachinohe, and Hitachinaka have been also closed.

Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan's largest container ports, were slightly affected but are being operated normally.
