Australia's Customs and Border Protection (C&BP) has been running a campaign against misapplication and abuse of the exemption of goods and service taxes (GSTs) and duties for imports valued below AUD$1000 (self assessed clearance declaration cargo) for three months since January.
As part of its operations, C&BP is combing through imported goods for clearance, and when needed, they may contact the shipper to confirm the purchasing price of the goods. As such, shippers are required to provide Customer Purchase Order and Payment Receipt as well as Commercial Invoice at the time of shipping.

In Australia, Customs requires electronic self assessed clearance (SAC) declaration to clear goods imported by air and sea that have a value at or below the AUD$1000 import entry threshold. SAC declarations must be made electronically through Customs Integrated Cargo System (ICS).
