A group representing container shipping lines serving in the transpacific trade predicts cargo demand in the trade from Asia to the U.S. will grow in the 7-8 percent range for 2011, a bit lower than the industry forecast of 8.8 percent growth in transpacific capacity.

Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (TSA) President Y.M. Kim, CEO of Hanjin Shipping Co. said, ''Advance bookings and market data suggest a return to robust trade flows by late spring and early summer, with a possibility that vessel space and equipment will be tight at times leading into the peak season.''

The 15-member carrier group expects overall 2011 load factors to remain quite strong.
